“I do NOT believe in Chiropractic”, until I discovered how it would change my family's lives.

As a chiropractor in the Hendersonville area, I am often times told by people that, “They do not believe in chiropractic.” I always tell them that I use to think the same way, until my family’s life was changed by chiropractic. I grew up four doors down from a chiropractor, yet I knew nothing about it.This would soon change.

Late one night as my mother was taking her dog for a walk; she slipped and fell, hitting her shoulder. She thought nothing of the pain the fall had caused her until about a week later the neck and shoulder pain kept getting worse. She went to her medical doctor and he said that he could not find anything wrong and prescribed pain killers and muscle relaxers. Not happy with this diagnosis, she went to another medical doctor and he told her the same thing. Still not satisfied, she went to physical therapy and they told her that they could give her some stretches to do, but they could not find

anything wrong. After taking the pain medicine and doing the stretches, the pain kept getting worse. One of her friends said, “Why don’t you try a chiropractor. I started going to a chiropractor because I was having low back pain. He was able to help me out a lot.”She told her friend, “Thanks, but no thanks.I do not believe in chiropractic.”What most people don’t knowis that Chiropractic is a hundred year old healing profession in which medical research has proven its effectiveness time and time again.

My mother, coming from a conservative family and a nutritionist at a hospital, was still not sold on the idea. She dealt with the neck and shoulder pain for almost a year, until she finally gave in to the idea of chiropractic. She made her first appointment at the local chiropractor. The chiropractor did a full spinal exam, neurological exam, and looked at her x-rays. After examining her x-rays, her chiropractor was able to inform her that she had a bone shift out of place from the fall, which was pinching on a nerve. My mother started laughing. The chiropractor asked her why she was laughing so hard. My mother said, “I have been to two medical doctors and two physical therapists and none of them mentioned this. I think that you are making this stuff up.” The chiropractor said, “Let’s give it a month to see if I can help you.If not, I will refer you out to someone who can.”My mother at this point, not having anywhere to turn, finally agreed to give it a try.Her decision to try chiropractic, she would soon find, changed her whole outlook about chiropractic and what it could do for her.

As she lay on the chiropractic table, not really expecting anything to happen, she heard and felt a bone move in her neck from the chiropractic adjustment. She was quickly startled by the initial adjustment, and than realized that the pain had decreased by fifty percent. After several treatments under her chiropractor’s care, the pain was gone. She had never been in such relief before. This introduced me to the power of chiropractic and the multitude of problems it can help solve. In the next edition, I will be educating readers about headaches, reasons for occurrence, and just how powerful chiropractic can be in helping relieve and eliminate them from the body.
